The Truth is Naturally Available

A youth traveled far over harsh terrain, and finally coming to a mountain, he studied under an old Zen master.
“Master, if I study strenuously with you learning meditation, how long will it be until I become enlightened?” the youth asked very humbly.
“About fifteen years” replied the Master.
“Master if I meditate all night, and if I study with extra effort, I will become enlightened sooner?” the youth persisted.

“About fifty years.” the Zen Master answered evenly.
“Master if I do not drink, nor eat, and devote all my self to study, can I become enlightened immediately?” the youth asked eagerly.
“This way will take you a whole lifetime.” the Zen Master said calmly.
