Joy of Zen

A Cell Too Big

A prisoner was convicted and sentenced to die. The night before his scheduled execution he wrote a short poem, and the next day he gave this to his Master.

"I wanted to clear the room of flies, but now the cell is too large".

The Master was touched by this and tears ran down his cheeks.

In Spring flowers blossom,

Autumn brings a bright moon,

Summer sends a cool breeze,

and Winter shows white snow.

If there is nothing on our minds,

every second is a good time.

There is a saying, if there is nothing on your mind, then one bed is wide enough.
